The game certainly had a playoff atmosphere as each team put their best 11 on the field to duke it out. Chaffey was in desperate need of a win over SBVC to help offset an earlier season loss to Rio Hondo, both Rio Hondo and SBVC will meet up at Whittier in the Foothill Conference finale for both teams on November 11th.
The game was fought to a stalemate through the first 30 minutes, with SBVC maintaining a large amount of the possessions, but never getting close enough to take advantage. Then SBVC struck in the 34th minute off of a corner kick from freshman midfielder Julissa Magana (Bloomington H.S.) who lobbed her kick into the pile and after a couple of point blank shots at the Chaffey keeper, the ball squeezed out of the mass of players in front of the net to the feet of sophomore forward Gabriela Parra (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) who pounded the shot home, giving SBVC a 1-0 lead.
Chaffey opened up the offense in the second half, trying to collect on some earlier missed opportunities, but SBVC sophomore goal keeper Sarah Gonzales (San Bernardino H.S.) was there to scoop up the shot attempts. SBVC would put the game away in the 70th minute when another ricochet off of a Chaffey defender allowed freshman defender Jenny Guyett (Redlands Citrus Valley) to clobber a shot into the back of the net, giving SBVC a 2-0 lead.
