SoCal trio inducted into Women's Basketball Hall of Fame
The California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA) announced its 2025 Hall of Fame class today as Ventura's Adria Sneed, Pasadena City's Kim Smith, and Irvine Valley's Phouangmaly "Pong" Pravongviengkham are this year's inductees.
Sneed, known by her married name as Harris, was a member of back-to-back state champion teams at Ventura in 1996 and 1997. She played on the most successful 2-year run of any women's basketball team as the Pirates won 71 of 72 games played in the '95-96 and '96-97 seasons under legendary head coach Ned Mircetic.
Inducted into the Ventura College Hall of Fame in 2018, Sneed participated as a 6-foot-1 forward as she earned All-State Second Team and All-Western State Conference First Team honors as a sophomore. As a freshman, she helped Ventura to an undefeated 35-0 season, defeating a previously undefeated team in Saddleback, 69-62, for the state championship.
Originally from Kirkland, Wash., she is on both VC's All-Time Top 10 in scoring (1,011 career points) and rebounding. Sneed went on to earn a scholarship and play two seasons at the University of Southern California (USC).
Smith became the second Pasadena City College alumnae in two years to be inducted after her teammate Kinyada Johnson was part of the 2024 class. Now known by her married name Streeter, Smith was an instrumental member of PCC's first-ever women's state title in any sport when she helped the Lancers win the 2009 state championship.
She played on two Elite Eight teams as she also helped the Lancers advance to the state quarterfinals as sophomore in 2010. She was the team's leading scorer that season.
Smith is the is the program's fifth all-time leading scorer with 997 points as she was twice selected All-South Coast Conference and All-State Second Team in the '09-10 season.
A 5-8 guard, Smith tied a school postseason record by scoring 35 points in a famous 2009 semifinals victory over previously undefeated and #1-seed Ventura, 106-93. She set a state tournament record by converting 23 of 29 free throws.
In her two seasons, she played on PCC squads that totaled 58 wins to just nine defeats under another legendary head coach in Joe Peron. From San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, Smith holds the PCC school records for most free throws made and attempted in a season and career.
She earned a playing scholarship to NCAA Division I University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) where she played two seasons for the Miners. She was the team's assists leader as a senior in 2011-2012 when she helped UTEP to the Conference USA championship and a 29-4 record.
Both Sneed and Smith currently work in college education as Mrs. Harris is Associate Dean of Student Equity and Success at Bellevue College in Washington state and Mrs. Streeter is TLC Athletic Coordinator at College of the Canyons.
Pravongviengkham was a member of Irvine Valley's first team to reach the state tournament in 1999. This was after helping the Lasers to the SoCal Regionals Third Round in her freshman season.
The 2-time, All-Orange Empire Conference First Team selection was OEC MVP and All-State First Team in the '98-99 season in averaging 13.4 points, 6 assists and 2.75 steals per game. From Huntington Beach, the 5-6 guard Pong played on IVC teams that finished 53-14, including a school record 27 victories in '97-98.
She set the school record for assists in a game with 13 during a playoff win over Southwestern. Pong played under Irvine Valley all-time wins leader and head coach Julie Hanks.
Like the other two inductees, Pravongvienkham earned a D1 playing scholarship as she spent two seasons at Northern Arizona University from 1999-2001.
The three members will be honored at the Banquet of Champions on March 13 preceding this year's 3C2A State Championship Tournament at Mt. San Antonio College.
