MILLETT’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS CSM INTO SUNDAY’S TOM MARTINEZ TOURNEY FINAL
SAN MATEO -- Freshman center Corryne Millett had 24 points and 13 rebounds as host College of San Mateo held off Solano College, 74-70, Saturday night to advance to Sunday’s 3 p.m. championship game of the Tom Martinez Invitational Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs (8-2) will play Contra Costa (9-5). The Comets defeated Shasta, 63-53 in the other semi. Solano (4-8) and Shasta (8-8) meet for third place at 1 p.m., following the 11 a.m. consolation contest between Diablo Valley (7-4) and Santa Monica (3-7)

SAN MATEO -- Freshman center Corryne Millett had 24 points and 13 rebounds as host College of San Mateo held off Solano College, 74-70, Saturday night to advance to Sunday's 3 p.m. championship game of the Tom Martinez Invitational Women's Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs (8-2) will play Contra Costa (9-5). The Comets defeated Shasta, 63-53 in the other semi.

San Mateo never trailed in Saturday's game, taking the lead at 5-2 on a 3-pointer by Taylor Cormier a minute into the contest. The Bulldogs later more than doubled the score on the visiting Falcons -- at 35-17 in the second quarter. CSM led, 39-26, at halftime. Solano made a surge after the intermission, however, and it was 50-46 after three quarters.
The Bulldogs took control again in the fourth quarter, led by Millett, to go up by ten at 63-53 with 5:21 left and then 71-60 with 1:43 remaining. Solano got ten points from its season scoring leader Cassandra Jones in the final 1:25 to add a little late drama. Jones made a pair of 3-pointers during the final ten seconds to make it 73-70 with 2.3 seconds left before Millett wrapped it up with a free throw. Jones finished with 23 points.
Mariah Elzy had 13 rebounds, eight points, four assists, and two blocks. Gabby Jajeh had 15 points on five 3-pointers, giving her 13 treys in two tournament games so far.
