Baker tabbed as player, Hoover earns pitcher of the week honors
LOS ANGELES, Calif – Nyah Baker of Butte College and Charlee Hoover from Hartnell College earn Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association Player and Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday, March 24.
Baker, this week’s 3CFCA Player of the Week, went 8-for-13 at the plate, with four extra base hits, including a grand slam. She drove in six runs, helping the Road Runners to a 3-1 week, beating Lassen once and Chabot twice. Baker added two wins in 13 innings pitched in the circle.
Overall, Baker is slashing an impressive .471/.500/.765 in 10 games with seven doubles.
Hoover was dominant in the circle en route to a 3CFCA Pitcher of the Week nod. Hoover pitched 14-scoreless innings, fanning 14 batters. The sophomore led Hartnell to an impressive 1-0 shutout-win over No. 6 San Jose City. In the win she allowed just five hits.
Hoover and the Panthers have won 10 of their last 11, falling to only No. 3 San Mateo 2-0 in that span.
Top Performers
A pair of Citrus College Owls had nice weeks as Citrus went 4-0. Alivia Martinez went 6-for-13 at the plate, driving in six runs. She showed off her speed on the basepaths, swiping seven bags.
Caitlin Kelley combined to pitch 21 innings across the four victories, tossing complete games against Bakersfield and LA Mission. She struck out 14 on the week.
