First 3CFCA poll has defending state champion Cypress on top
GLENDORA, Calif. - Defending California Community College Athletic Association state champion Cypress College has been tabbed as the No. 1 team in both Southern California and in the state in a poll of coaches released on Friday.
The Chargers, who finished their 2017 campaign as the only team in CCCAA history to finish with a perfect record (48-0), have now won 52 straight games after beating El Camino, 5-2, on Wednesday. Cypress was followed in the state rankings by Northern California region No. 1 Sierra College , which has started its season 6-1 after splitting a doubleheader with state No. 3 and NorCal No. 2 College of San Mateo (5-2).
Rounding out the top five is Mt. San Antonio College (5-1), last year’s state runner-up, and Monterey Peninsula College (6-1), whose lone loss on the young season came against Feather River College (7-1), ranked seventh in California. It’s the highest-ever ranking for MPC and FRC in the 3CFCA State Poll, and FRC’s first appearance in the ranking since January 25, 2013.
