Riley Wells waited for the post season for her first home run, a first inning grand slam that gave College of San Mateo a quick 7-0 lead, and the Bulldogs rolled to a 14-0 victory over Napa Valley College for a 2-game sweep of their opening playoff series.
Kaitlin Chang started things with a 2-run homer, which was all top seed San Mateo actually needed as pitchers Samantha Dean (11-1) and Christy Peterson blanked the visiting Storm. Both pitchers scored a pair of runs too.
Chang had three hits and four RBIs on the day. Wells had five RBIs, two hits, and scored twice. Her sister Meagan Wells also scored twice. Harlee Donovan had a triple duo of hits, runs, and RBIs.
--The 5-inning mercy-rule game was San Mateo's 61st straight home win over three seasons.
--State No. 1-ranked CSM (38-3) will host a 4-team super regional in the California Community College Athletic Association tournament next weekend (May 13-15). Opening games in the double elimination tournament will be on Friday afternoon at 2 and 4 p.m., with the Bulldogs facing No. 9 seed Cabrillo (29-13). Coast South champion Cabrillo upset No. 8 seed San Joaquin Delta in the first round, coming back after losing the first game, 4-0, to win, 8-3, 4-2.
Napa finished the season 12-15 – including three losses to San Mateo. CSM won the first game of the playoff series, 8-3, on Friday.

Winner advances to CCCAA Final Four State Championships at Bakersfield College, May 20-22.
