DONOVAN & JONES LEAD #1 CSM TO 52ND STRAIGHT HOME SB WIN,
11-0 OVER COAST SOUTH CO-LEADER WEST VALLEY
SAN MATEO -- Returning state home run leader Harlee Donovan smacked a leadoff round tripper as state top-ranked College of San Mateo won its 52nd consecutive home softball game, 11-0, over Coast Conference South co-leader West Valley College in five innings Tuesday afternoon.
CSM improved to 27-3 on the season and 8-1 in Coast North play. The 27 wins is four more than any of the state's other 81 teams. West Valley dropped to 15-14-1 and 6-3 -- and is in a 3-way tie for the South lead with Cabrillo and San Jose.
Starter Morgan Jones allowed just three hits over her three innings of work to improve to 11-1. Samantha Dean and Christy Peterson each hurled an inning of relief
Jordan Davis had a 2-RBI double in the first inning and a 2-run homer in the second for four RBIs and is now slugging .670.
Dean had two hits (including a double), two RBIs, scored two times, and stole two bases. She is batting .438, tops among CSM regulars, and ranks sixth in the state in RBIs with 34.
Donovan also had a triple and scored three times, raising her slugging average to .932, the best in Northern California and fourth in the state.
CSM HAS STATE RUNS LEADERS: Meagan Wells scored two runs and had her team-leading 11th stolen base. She and Donovan have each reached the 40 run plateau this season and co-lead the state. Donovan paces Northern California with nine home runs, one short of the state lead. She had 20 homers in 2015.
COAST NORTH FOES UP NEXT: CSM visits De Anza College (0-9) in Cupertino Thursday at 3 p.m. and returns home on Saturday to host Coast North runner-up Ohlone (5-3) on Saturday at 12 noon.
