College of San Mateo's state top-ranked women's softball team continues to have the Bay Area's longest home winning streak at 47 games over three seasons (sorry Golden State Warriors)…
The skein, which dates to April 2014, will be on the line Thursday afternoon when the Bulldogs (19-2 overall) return home to host No. 10 San Joaquin Delta (10-4) of the Big 8 Conference at 3 p.m.
Harlee Donovan and Ariana Garcia smashed home runs on Tuesday as CSM defeated 14th ranked Chabot College, 10-2, in a 5-inning "mercy" rule game in Hayward to remain undefeated and in sole possession of first place in the Coast North Conference.
Chabot (14-2) had been ranked fourth in the state (and second in Northern California behind CSM) in the first regular season poll but has found the going tough in the Coast North with a 1-2 start. The Gladiators are unbeaten outside the Coast and have Northern California's second best overall winning percentage (.875) behind San Mateo. CSM finished the first round of play 3-0 vs. league opponents.
Samanthan Dean pitched four innings to get the win and improve her season record to 7-1 with a 1.45 E.R.A.
It was the sixth home run of the season for Donovan, who also had 2 RBI's on the day and scored twice.
Garcia had two hits (in three trips), increasing her team leading batting average to .625, and scored twice. She has the state's second best batting average.
MEAGAN WELLS & DONOVAN PACE STATE IN SCORING:
Meagan Wells had two hits and scored three runs, extending her STATE lead in scoring to 31. She is batting .459. Donovan ranks second in the state with 28 runs scored.
Christy Peterson had a 3-for-3 day at the plate with three RBI's and is batting .455.
