#1 CSM SOFTBALL REBOUNDS TO SHUTOUT FEATHER RIVER 20-0 IN TWIN BILL
SAN MATEO – Harlee Donovan had five hits and Samatha Dean had seven RBIs as state top-ranked College of San Mateo shutout visiting Feather River College 8-0 and 12-0 in a softball doubleheader Friday afternoon. Both players hit home runs.
CSM starting pitchers went the distance. Christy Peterson (2-1) scattered four hits and struck out two in the first game. Morgan Jones (4-0) allowed just two hits in the nightcap.
Donovan led off both games with hits (a triple and a single) and then scored the eventual winning run each time.
The sophomore out of Half Moon Bay High, scored four times, had three RBIs, and walked twice.
Dean had four RBIs in the fourth inning of the nightcap, with a home run and a single, as the Bulldogs batted around in an 8-run frame. Meagan Wells had five hits, including a double and two RBIs. She ended the first game with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth to give CSM an 8-run mercy rule walk off win.
ONE STREAK EXTENDED, ANOTHER STREAK STARTED: CSM extended its two-year home winning streak to 41 games. San Mateo (7-1) also started a new regular season winning streak after being upset at Solano College earlier in the week, 5-4. The Bulldogs had taken a 4-0 lead before the Falcons (1-2) came back to tie it with a pair of runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. Solano loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and got the victory on a walk. That ended San Mateo's two-year 48-game regular season winning streak which dated to a 15-9 home loss to San Jose City College on April 2, 2014.
San Mateo had also been undefeated in all games, including post-season, against all Northern California teams during that period -- losing only in the state championship final four to Southern California teams in 2014 and 2015.
CSM's only other regular season loss since the beginning of the 2014 campaign was at Solano, 7-5, on Feb. 4, 2014.
SATURDAY: The Bulldogs remain at home Saturday, hosting College of the Redwoods at 10 a.m. and American River at 2 p.m.
