SAN MATEO -- Lacie Crawford pitched a no-hitter, Christy Peterson had a grand slam, Leilani Akai smacked two home runs, and Harlee Donovan regained the state home run lead as No. 1 College of San Mateo ran up its highest score of the season, defeating visiting City College of San Francisco, 31-0, Tuesday.
Crawford (12-0) struckout seven and walked two in pitching the 5-inning mercy-rule shortened game.
Four-time Coast North Conference champion CSM (33-0, 14-0 Coast) struck quickly with 12 runs in the first inning, then added five in the second and seven each in the third and fourth frames.
Donovan, a sophomore out of Half Moon Bay High, regained the state home run lead with her 16th round trip bash; also had five hits and four RBIs to increase her state lead in the latter category to 63. Akai hit a pair over the fence for four RBIs and scored five times. The Moreau Catholic grad ranks No. 3 in the state (No. 2 in Northern California behind Donovan) with 13 home runs and with 52 RBIs.
Peterson (from Carlmont) had three hits, including her slam in the fourth inning, and totaled five RBIs.
State pitching leader Lauren Berriatua (Notre Dame Belmont) had a "perfect" 3-for-3 day as designated player, scoring three runs and batting in a pair. As a hitter, she ranks No. 4 in the state with a .566 batting average.
Melina Rodriquez hit safely in her 32nd consecutive game, going 2-for-2 (both doubles) and scoring all three times at bat (walking once). The sophomore first baseman out of James Logan HIgh increased her team-leading batting average to .590, which is No. 2 in the state (but doesn't officially qualify since she missed several games with an injury).
Two other Logan grads starred: Kayleen Smith had five hits and scored four times. Janelle Rubio had four hits (three doubles) and five RBIs.
San Mateo has won its two meetings with the Rams this season by a combined 58-0 margin.
