CRAWFORD’S NO-HITTER SPOILED AT END; STILL #1 CSM ROLLS OVER SAN JOSE, 13-2, TO GO 28-0
SAN MATEO -- Although Lacie Crawford’s no-hitter was spoiled by the last potential batter, the sophomore righthander completed a one-hit game as No. 1 College of San Mateo rolled to a 13-2 Coast Conference softball victory over visiting San Jose City College Thursday afternoon. Crawford (9-0) struckout five and retired 12 batters in a row after a shaky start that saw San Jose score twice in the first inning without batting the ball safely. Three hit batters alternated with two walks gave the Jaguars their only runs – and the only players to reach base until the end.

CRAWFORD'S NO-HITTER SPOILED AT END;
STILL #1 CSM ROLLS OVER SAN JOSE, 13-2, TO GO 28-0
SAN MATEO -- Although Lacie Crawford's no-hitter was spoiled by the last potential batter, the sophomore righthander completed a one-hit game as No.
With two out in the top of the fifth, San Jose's Yasmine Hernandez lined a bloop single down the third base line for the Jaguars' lone hit. Crawford then put a mercy ending to the abbreviated game, getting the next batter to fly out to short left field.
CSM's first three batters scored all the runs needed in the bottom of the first. No. 3 hitter Harlee Donovan, the state home run leader (15), scored three times in the game, but "only" had a pair of singles.
Catcher Leilani Akai was the slugger of the day with a home run and three RBIs, also scoring twice. Designated player and cleanup hitter Lauren Berriatua (the state's top pitcher at 19-0) had a pair of doubles and three RBIs, also scoring two runs.
Also getting a pair of hits and scoring runs were Kayleen Smith, Riley Wells, and Kaitlin Chang. Smith had two RBIs and one of CSM's seven doubles. The Bulldogs scored five times each in the third and fourth innings.
State top-ranked CSM increased its school record winning streak and season record to 28-0 and is now 9-0 in the Coast North, 1 and a half games ahead of Ohlone (16-10, 7-1). San Jose fell to 12-11-1 (4-4 in the Coast South).
NEXT: The Bulldogs are idle until Tuesday (March 24) when they host Gavilan at 3 p.m. in the only game next week.
