STATE LEADERS DONOVAN (12 HOMERS, 42 RBI’S) & BERRIATUA (12 WINS, 0.24 ERA) PACE NO. 1 CSM TO 19-0 START

SAN MATEO -- State leaders Harlee Donovan and Lauren Berriatua added to their respective home run slugging and pitching totals as No. 1 College of San Mateo swept four 5-inning mercy-rule softball games the past week. On Saturday the top-ranked 19-0 Lady Bulldogs took care of College of the Sequoias of the Central Valley Conference, 8-0, and College of the Siskiyous of the Golden Valley Conference, 13-4; then beat Siskiyous again, 10-0, on Sunday. That added to a nine home run 27-0 whitewashing of City College of San Francisco in a Coast North Conference game during the week.

SAN MATEO -- State leaders Harlee Donovan and Lauren Berriatua added to their respective home run slugging and pitching totals as No. 1 College of San Mateo swept four 5-inning mercy-rule softball games the past week.

On Saturday the top-ranked 19-0 Lady Bulldogs took care of College of the Sequoias of the Central Valley Conference, 8-0, and College of the Siskiyous of the Golden Valley Conference, 13-4; then beat Siskiyous again, 10-0, on Sunday. That added to a nine home run 27-0 whitewashing of City College of San Francisco in a Coast North Conference game during the week.
BULLDOGS TOPS IN SLUGGING & PITCHING:
After slugging three home runs against CCSF, Donovan had her fourth homer of the week on Saturday to start CSM's barrage against Siskiyous and bring her state-leading total to an even dozen. The Half Moon Bay High grad had five RBI's for the day to bring her season total to 42, 11 more than anyone else in the state.
Berriatua, out of Notre Dame (Belmont) increased her state leading pitching wins total to 12 with victories in all three shutouts for the week, lowering her state-leading earned run average to 0.24.

As designated player in Saturday's win over Siskiyous, Berriatua smashed her fifth home run (ranking sixth in the state) to help Lacie Crawford win her seventh game. Berriatua ranks No. 9 in state slugging at 1.071. Berriatua was unfazed against state hitting leader Rikki Kirchefer of Siskiyous, getting a strikeout and an infield putout in her two at bats.

Leilani Akai, who had a home run and four RBI's on Sunday, ranks third in the state with six homers and fourth with 26 RBI's. Kayleen Smith had a pair of stolen bases and leads Northern California with 13.
 

CSM LEADS STATE IN 15 TEAM CATEGORIES:

The highest scoring team by far among the state's 80 community college squads, CSM has tallied 223 runs.

San Mateo ranks No. 1 in California in 15 of 22 team statistical categories. In addition to runs, they include: team batting average (.458), slugging percentage (.797), RBI's (198), extra base hits (84), home runs (34), doubles (45), hits (212), total bases (369), on base percentage (.539), sacrifice hits (28), earned run average (0.96), shutouts (9), batting average against (.159), fewest times hit into double plays (1),

 
UPCOMING: CSM hosts Chabot on Tuesday (March 3) in a Coast North Conference game at 3 p.m., then goes on the road Thursday to play at Big 8 Conference power San Joaquin Delta (12-4) at 3 p.m. and at Coast North runner-up Foothill  (10-9, 2-1) Saturday at 12 noon in Los Altos Hills.
