Harlee Donovan smashed a state-leading eighth home run in the first game and went 3-for-4 in the second as No. 1 College of San Mateo stretched its season-opening women’s softball win streak to 15 games Saturday. The Bulldogs (15-0) topped Cosumnes River (7-5-1) of the Big Eight Conference, 9-1, in five innings and then beat Fresno City College (1-10) of the Central Valley, 6-3, in a regulation seven-inning nightcap.

SAN MATEO -- Harlee Donovan smashed a state-leading eighth home run in the first game and went 3-for-4 in the second as No. 1 College of San Mateo stretched its season-opening women's softball win streak to 15 games Saturday.
The Bulldogs (15-0) topped Cosumnes River (7-5-1) of the Big Eight Conference, 9-1, in five innings and then beat Fresno City College (1-10) of the Central Valley, 6-3, in a regulation seven-inning nightcap.
CSM got all the runs it needed in the first frame of both contests, scoring three in the initial game and four in the closer.
Donovan rang up all 3's in the first game, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and scored three times – hitting the homer and a double. The frosh right hander out of Half Moon Bay High finished a 6-hit day in the second game with another double and two more RBIs – five for the day -- to lead the state with 26.
Lauren Barriatua got a state co-leading ninth win in the first game, striking out six and walking none -- while scattering five hits. She leads the state in earned run average at 0.30 and is No. 4 in strikeouts with 64. Also batting as designated player, the sophomore right hander out of Notre Dame-Belmont also had three hits on the day and scored a pair of runs.
Shortstop Kayleen Smith (James Logan) scored four times and had three stolen bases to lead Northern California with 11 steals. She ranks tenth in the state with 21 hits.
Melina Rodriguez had a home run and a double and scored twice. The sophomore first baseman from James Logan leads the state with 26 hits and ranks No. 6 in batting average at 619
Lacie Crawford (Granada) got her sixth pitching win in the second game (to rank sixth in the state in victories), striking out five but allowing a pair of solo home runs. The sophomore right hander still ranks No. 19 in the state with a 1.79 E.R.A.
CSM is one of only two remaining unbeatens among the CCCAA's 80 fastpitch teams. The other team is Bakersfield (6-0).
--The Bulldogs return to Coast North action on Tuesday at 1 p.m., playing City College of San Francisco (0-4) on the Rams' home field in Pacifica. CSM's next home games are Saturday against College of the Sequoias (5-8) at 10 a.m. and College of the Siskiyous (6-3) at 2 p.m.
