Week #3 Players and Pitchers of the Week Announced
The California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association is pleased to announce it's Week #3 State Player and Pitcher of the Week. College of San Mateo's Lauren Berriatua was named the State Pitcher of the Week, while San Bernardino Valley College's Lauren Melchor is the State Player of the Week.
Player of the Week – Lauren Melchor – San Bernardino Valley College
Sophomore short stop Lauren Melchor is the 3CFCA Player of the Week for Week #3. In the five games in which she appeared, the Wolverines went 5-1. Melchor batted .625 on the week (10 for 16), with six runs scores, five RBI's, three stolen bases, and a pair of doubles. In a 7-1 win over Los Angeles Mission College, Melchor went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI's and a run scored. She followed that up in the second game of the Wolverines' double-header with the Eagles by going 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Melchor prepped at Redlands East Valley High School in Redlands, CA.
Pitcher of the Week – Lauren Berriatua – College of San Mateo
Sophomore pitcher Lauren Berriatua is the 3CFCA Pitcher of the Week for Week #3. The Bulldogs went 7-0 on the week, and Berriatua was the starting and winning pitcher in four of those contests. On the week, Berriatua went 4-0 with two total runs allowed, only one of which was earned, with a total of 28 K's. Berriatua led San Mateo to wins over State #12 Solano College and State #3 Mt. San Antonio College, as well as victories over Yuba and American River Colleges. On the week, Berriatua posted a 0.86 WHIP, a 0.05 ERA, and an impressive 8.91 K's per seven innings. Berriatua prepped at Norte Dame High School in Belmont, CA.
