SAN MATEO – Melina Rodriquez went a perfect 4-for-4 to increase her Northern California pacesetting batting average to .789 as College of San Mateo’s unbeaten (7-0) women’s softball team swept visiting Yuba College, 16-0 and 12-2, in a pair of mercy-shortened 5-inning games Thursday afternoon. Rodriquez, who ranks No. 2 in state batting, had a triple in the first game and a home run in the second and tallied three RBIs. Yuba fell to 0-4.

Lacie Crawford pitched the complete game 2-hit shutout opener for her third win, striking out four and walking just one. Lauren Berriatua (a Notre Dame Belmont grad) got her fourth win in the nightcap, going a perfect three innings and striking out four to maintain her co-state leading 0.00 ERA.
CSM coach Nicole Borg then rested her ace for this weekend's 4-game slate and brought in back-up hurler Kaitlin Chang to close it out. Chang gave up a pair of earned runs in the fifth before the Bulldogs ended it with a double play. Capuchino grad Chang, playing her left field position until coming in to pitch, went 3-for-7 with four RBIs and is hitting .500 for the season.
DONOVAN STATE'S TOP HR SLUGGER: The big bat for the day belonged to Harlee Donovan, who hit homers in both games, had five RBIs, and scored five times. The Half Moon Bay High grad leads the state with five home runs, is hitting .500 and slugging 1.389. She ranks second in the state in RBIs with 14. Kayleen Smith scored five runs and Lelani Akai tallied three times.
FOUR GAME WEEKEND HOME SLATE INCLUDES SHOWDOW AMONG STATE'S TOP THREE TEAMS:
CSM will play four strong teams in double bills Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Bulldogs host American River (2-1) at 10 a.m. and College of the Redwoods (0-2) at 2 p.m.
On Sunday, the No. 2 state-ranked Bulldogs face No. 3 Mt. San Antonio (4-0) at 10 a.m. and then defending state champion and No. 1 Sierra (4-0) at 2 p.m. Sierra and Mt. SAC will play at noon. Only seven of the state's 80 teams still have perfect records. So that number will be reduced by at least two on Sunday.
CSM DOMINATES STATE STATISTICS:
San Mateo leads the state in runs scored with 97 (and has given up only six), in RBI (84), team batting (.483) and slugging (.808), extra base hits (31), fewest strikeouts (2), and must shutouts (3). The Bulldogs have hit into the fewest double plays (1).
