PERFECT CSM SOFTBALL TEAM OUTSCORING FOES 63-3; HOME TO SOLANO TUESDAY
Having outscored its opponents 63-3 so far this season, College of San Mateo's undefeated (4-0) women's softball team hosts Solano College Tuesday (Feb. 10) at 3 p.m.
Lauren Berriatua continued her sparkling start with the bat and on the mound during Saturday's five-inning, 18-0, win over visiting Gavilan College (2-5).
Berriatura had a home run and three RBI, scoring twice to temporarily increase her state leading batting average to .888. But Berriatura's early season home hitting skein ended at four when her high fly to short in the third inning was caught. On the mound, the sophomore out of Notre Dame (Belmont) continued her home hitless streak with two innings of relief work, striking out three and walking one – the first batter to reach base off her at home this year. She now has a perfect 0.00 earned run average, with two previous wins, is batting .727, and has a 1.545 slugging average.
Starter Lacie Crawford got her second win, allowing just one hit and striking out a pair.
Melina Rodriquez took over as the state hitting leader at .833 following a 3-for-3 day that included a home run, a double, a single, and a walk. She scored four times and tallied four RBI and is slugging 1.250.
Harlee Donovan had a pair of home runs over the left centerfield fence for four RBI and is now hitting .545 and slugging 1.455. Carlmont grad Christy Peterson and Brittany Wilkerson each had two hits, including a double apiece.
