The California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association is pleased to announce it's Week #8 Northern and Southern California Players. Saddleback College's Sam Molina win's the SoCal Player of the Week, while Allan Hancock's Katelyn Chenault won the SoCal Pitcher of the Week Award for the third time in this year. In the North, West Valley's Brianna Massey wins her second Player of the Week Award, while Gavilan College's Paige Miguel wins her first Pitcher of the Week honors.
Northern California Player of the Week – Brianna Massey – West Valley College
On the week, Massey went 4 for 7 at the plate with an RBI. Massey was 2 for 4 against Foothill College, and then followed that up with a 2 for 3 effort against then State #1 College of San Mateo. Massey is a sophomore outfielder for the Vikings.
Northern California Pitcher of the Week – Paige Miguel – Gavilan College
In her two games during Week #8, Miguel gave up just one run as the Rams won both games. Miguel fanned nine batters, and surrendered just six total hits on the week, as she improved to 14-5 overall for a team that has been in the Northern California Rankings all season long. Miguel is a 5'5 right handed sophomore out of Hollister, CA where she attended San Benito High School.
Southern California Player of the Week – Sam Molina – Saddleback College
In Week #8, Molina went 8 for 17 at the plate, with a double, five home runs, and 9 RBI's. Molina scored six runs for good measure, and hit the game winner against SoCal Ranked Cerritos College. Molina is a freshman third baseman for the Gauchos out of Yorba Linda High School.
Southern California Pitcher of the Week – Katelyn Chenault – Allan Hancock College
Chenault continued her dominate 2014 during Week #8. Chenault threw her first perfect game at the community college level last week. The freshman retired all 15 batters she faced in a 28-0, five inning win over L.A. Pierce. Chenault struck out 14 of the 15 hitters in the game. Chenault also threw three no-hit innings in the first game. She struck out 8 and allowed one walk in Hancock's 30-0 win in five innings. The freshman from Santa Maria leads the state with 222 strikeouts.
