Week #7 Players and Pitchers of the Week Announced
The California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association is pleased to announce it's Week #7 Northern and Southern California Players. Palomar College's Keilani "KK" Fronda was named the Southern California Player of the Week for Week #7, and College of the Desert's Natalie Padilla was named the Southern California Pitcher of the Week. In the North, NorCal #2 Solano College swept the awards as Aleyna Benipayo was named the Northern California Player of the Week for Week #7 and Shannon Mestas was named the Northern California Pitcher of the Week.
Northern California Player of the Week – Aleyna Benipayo – Solano College
Benipayo opened up the week, by going 5 for 7 with a single, four triples, a walk, six RBI's and a pair of stolen bases against Yuba College in a double-header. Over the weekend Benipayo went 9 for 24 with seven singles, a triple, a home run, a walk, six RBI's and two more stolen bases as Solano went on to win the Ohlone College March Madness Tournament's Gold Division. Benipayo is a 5'4 freshman infielder who came to the Falcons from Concord HS in Concord, CA
Northern California Pitcher of the Week – Shannon Mestas – Solano College
Mestas opened up conference in Week #7 against Yuba College. In the first game of a double header she pitched a no hitter with five complete innings, racking up 10 strikeouts and only allowing one walk, while facing 16 batters. In the second game she would only pitch 1/3 of an inning earning one strikeout while only facing one batter. Later on Solano went 6-0 winning the Gold Division in the Ohlone College March Madness softball tournament in Fremont. Mestas would pitch in five out of the six games with a total of 23 2/3 innings with 29 strikeouts, 3 earned runs, 11 hits, 9 walks while facing a total of 79 batters. This brings her record up to 12-1 with one save. Mestas is a 5'4 freshman righty, who came to the Falcons from Clayton Valley HS in Concord, CA.
Southern California Player of the Week – Keilani "KK" Fronda – Palomar College
In three games during Week #7, Fronda was 4 for 8 in three games. Three of Fronda's four hits, were home runs, including a pair of long fly's against then State #1 Santa Ana College. In that game against the Dons, Fronda hit a walk-off to win the game against Santa Ana. During the week, Fronda had four RBI's and scored six runs. She also added a pair of stolen bases and a walk. Fronda is a 5'6 freshman outfielder from Rohnert Park, CA where she attended Rancho Cotate HS.
Southern California Pitcher of the Week – Natalie Padilla – College of the Desert
During the week, Padilla was 3-1 with her lone loss coming to then State #7 Cypress College. In that loss to the Chargers, Padilla threw a four-hitter, allowing just one run in a 1-0 loss. Later that week, Padilla defeated Barstow, Chaffey, and Grossmont. Padilla didn't allow a single earned run in any of those contests. Padilla is a 5'8 sophomore righty, who hails from Indio, CA where she attended Indio HS.
