CSM SWEEPS CCSF & DE ANZA, 1-GAME OUT IN GG BASEBALL END OF 1ST HALF
SAN MATEO -- Pinch-hitter Nick Adgar reached on a 2-out single in the fifth and scored the winning run on a single by Mark Quinby as College of San Mateo took an 8-1 Coast Golden Gate baseball victory over visiting City College of San Francisco on Tuesday, moving within a game of first place.
San Mateo (18-8, 7-3 Golden Gate) now has a 4-game winning streak, with sweeps of series against De Anza and CCSF to end the first half of league play. The Bulldogs have won seven of their last eight contests and trail leader Mission (8-2) by just one game heading into a series with the Saints. Mission visits CSM Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and then hosts the Bulldogs on Saturday in Santa Clara at 1 p.m.
Starter Cameron Greenough had six strikeouts over six innings against CCSF (2-22-1, 0-10) to grab his fourth win against two defeats.
San Mateo banged out 13 singles, taking firm control late – with three runs in the seventh and a pair in the top of the ninth. (The Bulldogs were visitors in the San Francisco "home" game, moved to the Bulldogs diamond due to a CCSF field conflict.)
Quinby had a pair of hits and two RBIs. Jonah Gonzales and Ryan Krainz each had three hits and two RBIs. Adgar and Brock Tsukamoto each scored twice.
CCSF got its lone run in the third inning to tie the score. Isaq Lewis led off with a double, the game's only extra base hit, and eventually came home on a sacrifice fly by Branden Oropeza.
--In other Golden Gate games Tuesday, Mission held off Chabot, 7-5, and fifth place West Valley knocked De Anza out of a tie for the league lead, 9-1. The Dons now share second with CSM
