DOUBLES BY QUINBY & GONZALEZ GIVE CSM A 3-2 BASEBALL COMEBACK OVER CHABOT
SAN MATEO – Mark Quinby and Juan Gonzalez hit RBI doubles in the bottom of the eighth inning to give College of San Mateo a 3-2 comeback win over visiting Chabot College in a Coast Golden Gate baseball game Tuesday.
CSM improved to 15-8, 4-3 in Golden Gate play, and now trails second place Chabot (14-8, 5-2) by just one game.
The conference race tightened as leader Mission (17-5, 6-1) lost for the first time, 3-2, at De Anza (15-7, 5-2). The Bulldogs play Chabot again on Thursday in Hayward at 2:30 p.m.
Anders Green ledoff the productive eighth with a single and Quinby quickly doubled him home. Brandon Hernandez singled to advance Quinby to third and then stole second. The ensuing double by Gonzalez produced the tying and winning runs.
Green, Quinby, and Hernandez each had two hits.
Drew Reveno, who allowed just one hit and had two strikeouts over the final three innings in relief of Cameron Greenough, got the win, his second against one loss. Greenough had struck out six Gladiators and allowed five hits over the first six frames. Chabot had no extra base hits.
Chabot scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings on RBIs by Kenny Corey, but neither was a hit. He had a sacrifice fly to score Cal Stevenson in the fifth, then reached on an error in the seventh as Nathan Kanat (who had been hit by a pitch) scored from third.
