CSM BASEBALL 9-3 AFTER 4-2 WIN OVER HARTNELL; VISITS CANADA THURSDAY
SAN MATEO -- Brad Degnan smacked a 2-run single to right field in the third inning to bring home Juan Gonzalez and Brandon Hernandez and give host College of San Mateo a 4-0 lead that held-up for a 4-2 victory over Hartnell College in a Coast Conference non-league crossover game Tuesday afternoon.
Starter Brock Tsukamoto stayed undefeated, allowing four hits and striking out three over five innings for his third win. He walked just one batter. Isaac Greer and Mark Quinby each pitched a pair of shutout innings to secure the victory. The Panthers did not have an extra base hit.
Hartnell got on the board in the fourth inning when Adam Anoue had a 2-RBI single up the middle.
CSM, ranked No. 5 in Northern California in the coaches association poll, improved to 9-3 for the season. Hartnell fell to 8-7
The Bulldogs started the third inning with Anders Green getting hit by a pitch. He eventually reached third on a single by Mike Riesner and scored on a throwing error. Riesner scored on a double by Ryan Krainz, who had the game's only extra base hit.
Hernandez had two of San Mateo's eight hits in the game (2-for4) to raise his team-leading batting average to .463
NEXT: San Mateo visits San Mateo County rival Canada College on Thursday at 2 p.m. It will be CSM's last regular season game against a county foe. The Bulldogs won the first contest with Canada, 13-1, in the Jan. 30 season opener. Canada (3-10) last week upset Northern California's No. 2 ranked team, Santa Rosa JC, 12-5.
