Palomar takes over top spot in week 10
LOS ANGELES, Calif – Palomar jumps West Valley to take the No. 1 spot in the state, the first time a new team has held the position since week five, February 25 – this week in the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association State Rankings.
The No. 1 Comets are on a 20-game winning streak, steamrolling through opponents. Most recently, Palomar knocked off No. 7 Cypress in a double header 10-2 in five innings and 10-5. Breanna Lutz leads the state in batting average at a .563 clip. She’s hitting even better in conference play at .593.
Despite falling, No. 2 West Valley sits at a dominant 29-2 on the season, with its second loss coming from No. 6 San Jose City, 7-6 in eight innings. The Vikings pace a Coast Conference that boasts themselves, No. 3 San Mateo and San Jose City as the top-three squads – the trio holds a combined W/L record of 81-7.
The rest of the rankings remain similar with No. 20 Citrus and No. 19 American River jumping into the mix. American River made it as high as 14 in week five, but has been out of the conversation since. Citrus, sitting at 15-11, picked up a 3-0 win over No. 5 Long Beach City last week, shutting out the Vikings, 3-0.
