Mt. San Antonio Earns Fourth Straight NATYCAA Cup Title

Sacramento, CA . . .The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), in association with the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), today released the final CCCAA standings of the 2015-16 NATYCAA Cup.

Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut, CA) continues their historic run by topping the final standings with a point total of 169 for their fourth NATYCAA Cup win in as many years. During this stretch, Mt. SAC became the first college to have back-to-back wins, let alone four in a row. To top it off, the Mounties set a new season high point total last year with 187.5 after adjustments. This is their sixth NATYCAA Cup win and fifth in the last six years. Their previous titles came in the 2008-09, 2010-11, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Coming in a close second is Cerritos College (Norwalk, CA) with a total of 164 points. Mt. SAC and Cerritos were in a two college race for first as the next highest point total was 147.5 by Fresno City College (Fresno, CA). Riverside City College (Riverside, CA) placed in fourth with 145 points and Santa Rosa Junior College (Santa Rosa, CA) in fifth with 134. Rounding out the top ten was Orange Coast (Costa Mesa, CA), Sierra College (Rocklin, CA), American River College (Sacramento, CA), Diablo Valley College (Pleasant Hill, CA), and Golden West College (Huntington Beach, CA).

During the 2015-16 seasons Mt. San Antonio won state championships in women’s basketball and men’s track & field. The Mounties also earned a second place finish in men’s cross country along with a state semifinal appearance in men’s soccer. In addition, the Mounties placed fourth in state in women’s track & field, fifth in wrestling and women’s cross country, were super regional finalists in softball and regional semifinalists in both men’s & women’s tennis. Mt. San Antonio College has a strong history in the NATYCAA Cup since the awards’ beginnings in California, never placing below sixth in its 13 year history.

A college is awarded points based on its team’s final positions in post-conference competition. Each college’s top-five men’s and top-five women’s team results count toward the school’s overall point total. NATYCAA is the professional organization of two-year college athletic administrators and membership is open to all two-year institutions throughout the country. The NATYCAA Awards were designed to recognize and reward overall program excellence at the two-year college level.  The criterion for the State Association’s division was developed by the CCCAA in conjunction with the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA). This is the thirteenth year that NATYCAA has sponsored a State Association’s division. A list of previous CCCAA winners can be found below.

Mt. San Antonio College will be recognized along with Cerritos College at the NATYCAA Awards Luncheon, held during the 2016 NATYCAA Convention on Monday, June 13 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas. Awards will be presented to the top three colleges from both the NWAC and CCCAA and the top twenty schools in the division will receive recognition.
