CCCWBCA recognizes outstanding achievements with 2019-20 Academic All-State Team
SACRAMENTO - The California Community College Women’s Basketball Coaches Association is proud of its coaches’ long tradi- tion of putting the “student” in student-athlete. And this year it is proving it again.
Seventy-eight players from 38 colleges have been named to the 2019-20 CCCWBCA Academic All-State Team, one of the group’s longest lists of honorees to date. They will be recognized at the CCCWBCA’s Banquet of Champions at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, California on March 11 beginning at 6 p.m. The banquet will also honor this year’s Hall of Fame inductees, the Elite Eight teams and coaches and the group’s (on the court) All-State Team. This celebration will serve as a prelude to the State Tournament quarterfinals, which take place the following day (March 12) at West Hills College-Lemoore beginning at 1 p.m. State semi-finals follow on March 14 and the State Championship Game will be played at 1 p.m. at WH-L on March 15.
Incredibly, 13 of the 78 players have maintained a 4.0 GPA while competing on their college basketball teams. They are: Sarah Gudeman, Allan Hancock College; Danielle Morgan, Allan Hancock College; Mariah Lora, Cerritos College; Gloria Bianchi, Glendale College; Tess Oakley-Stilson, Glendale College; Dar’Juanah Harris, Lassen College; Alexa Brand, San Joaquin Delta College; Jayme Ehlert, Santa Ana College; Maaria Jaakkola, San- ta Barbara City College; Lauren Noggle, Santa Barbara City College; Victoria Kelley, Santa Barbara City College; Vanessa Hughes, Solano Community College; and Colleen Clow, Ventura College.
Eight other student-athletes on this list had a GPA of 3.9 or above.
To qualify for Academic All-State recognition the student-athletes had to complete a year of play on their teams, earn at least 24 units of credit and maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA. For more information about this honor, go on the cccaasports.org website, find the Constitution & Bylaws and see Form U.
