Jags Cruise to a 71-38 Victory Over the Saints Handing Coach O her 600th Career Win
By Malaya Street
With dominant victories back-to-back against the Mission College Saints (7-18, 3-5 South Coast), the Jags (19-5, 4-1) created a memorable 600th win for Coach Terri Oberg, affectionately called Coach O.
"It's not about me," she said. "I'm just a small part of it. It's a cumulation of all of the student-athletes I've had come through me. They have helped this program get to that 600th win."
Zara Dumatol scored 13 points with three rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Xiana Torres added 12 points with six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Kira Levandoski contributed 11 points with thirteen rebounds and five blocks.
Jags' defense held the Saints to 25 percent shooting from the field and 18.2 percent from the 3-point line.
The Jag reserves closed out the game with 12 points, including Christine Lam responsible for making the last 6 points of the game.
"I got a great coaching staff," said Coach O. "They get me going again. This year was a cumulation of a good staff and a great group of kids. It's all them."
"I keep motivated because I still enjoy it. You get your headaches, you get your stresses, but I do enjoy my job. I love the student-athletes. I love my staff. I'm very fortunate to say I love my job and my work. It is because of all of the people at San Jose City College."
"I just want to finish out the year strong. We still want to win a conference championship. One day at a time. Right now, I am enjoying it."
