LA City Cubs Men’s soccer team win first home game

LOS ANGELES -
In a history-making season, the LA City Cubs men's soccer team won their first home game against LA Mission College on Friday night, and just like that, they now have their first winning streak.
This week could not have been a better one for the Cubs, who have won their last two games and are back at .500 with a record of two wins, three draws, and two losses. Gio Marquez led the solid LACC back line that now has three shutouts this season.
The Cubs' offense is heating up at the right time in the season, as LACC had eight shots on target during the game, but it was Ivan Castrejon's shot from a Kender Ruiz assist that beat a fully stretched LA Mission goalie Anthony Martinez which made the difference.
Minutes later after the goal, Castrejon served a perfect pass to speedy forward Luis Mora, whose run beat two defenders but was brought down by the goalkeeper in a desperate attempt to prevent the goal. It was a clear red card since he was the last man but the ref gave a yellow instead and marked the foul just outside of the penalty box.
In the second half the LA Mission Eagles pushed up to try to tie the game but found a determined LACC defense that was hungry for their first home win. Midfielder Ivan Gutierrez had to leave the game after colliding with a defender as they both went for the ball.
Late in the game playmaker Ryan Medina squandered a clear chance by sending his shot just inches from the post. The ref blew the final whistle and LACC briefly celebrated, for they now must face the Mira Costa Spartans on Tuesday.
The Cubs have showed resilience in each game this season. They all defend as a unit and are starting to become a force to be reckoned with. Every game teaches them something and they seem to be improving as the best part of the season is yet to come.
