GLENDALE - Sally Miramontes blasted a home run for the Marauder softball team helping lead her team to an easy 9-1 victory over Glendale College, in a makeup game that was rained out earlier this month.
It took the Marauders only five innings to dispose of the Vaqueros and it didn't take long for them to get out of the blocks quick. AVC scored four runs in the top of the first inning and two in the second and had a comfortable 6-1 lead following three innings of play.
With the win, the Marauders (17-17, 10-6) moved into a second place tie with Bakersfield College. AVC plays the Renegades two more times this season. The Marauders easily handled Bakersfield, 11-3, on Mar. 31 at Antelope Valley College.
AVC trails College of the Canyons by 3 1/2 games in the standings. The Marauders still have a chance to win the conference title, but they need help. Also, AVC will have to do it on the road as its remaining five games are on the road.
Jennifer Littlejohn was 3-for-3 for the Marauders and teammate Justeene Tamayo had a couple of hits. Naelyse Garcia and Angelica Ochoa combined for an impressive pitching performance as the duo gave up only three hits.
