Eighth Inning Run Puts SBCC on Top Over Cuesta

SANTA BARBARA – The SBCC baseball team made it three wins over Cuesta this season, defeating them on Friday in a postponed game at Pershing Park that was originally supposed to be played two weeks earlier, 2-1.

Santa Barbara improved to 20-12 overall and 13-6 in WSC play, while Cuesta fell to 22-14, 15-5.

NOTABLE

  • The Vaqueros finished with five hits, tied for their third-fewest in a win this season. They also had five walks, three of which came from catcher Tyler Imbach, who tied a season-high.
  • It was a huge day for third baseman Ricardo Amavizca, who entered the day with one hit on the year but would finish with three to lead all players. His final hit proved to be the game-winning RBI single, bringing in second baseman Matty Fung's run in the eighth. Fung also two walks.
  • Designated hitter Andrew McKenna also recorded a big RBI double to open the scoring in the first for a Gabe Baldavino run.
  • Right fielder Pearce Blaney had SBCC's other hit, a single in the eighth that moved Fung closer to his eventual go-ahead run.
  • Pitcher Colby Downard pitched more than five innings, giving up just one run.
  • Noah Bullard (2-0) got the win pitching 2.1 innings with two strikeouts and just one hit.
  • Charlie Adamson earned his first save of the year after coming in for the ninth inning and conceding just one hit to close out the win.
