Pirates remain unbeaten with 8-1 victory over Bobcats

COSTA MESA -- The winning machine that is the Orange Coast College women's tennis program is showing zero signs of wear and tear as the Pirates rolled to an 8-1 win over visiting Saddleback on Tuesday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

With the win, the Pirates improve to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in OEC play. The loss drops the previously-unbeaten Bobcats to 6-1, 2-1 in the OEC.

Coast took care of business in singles play, winning five of six matches, including Logan Kaitka (6-4, 6-0), Madeleine Veltri (6-2, 3-0 retired), Sedona Smith (6-0, 6-0), Olivia Sipiora (6-0, 6-0) and Leanne Pascua (6-1, 6-1).

It was more of the same in doubles for the Pirates, who swept Saddleback in all three contests, including Veltri/Kaitka (8-6), Sipiora/Smith (8-4) and Nelson/Pascua (8-4).

It has been a VERY solid start for the Pirates, who have not only won all 11 matches in hand, but have won 87 sets, while losing only 12.

OCC will play at Rio Hondo College on Thursday (2 p.m.) for the start of three in a row on the road. Coast returns to the OCC Tennis Complex on Thursday, March 16 against Cypress, beginning at 2 p.m.
