Bobcats maul Rustlers

The Saddleback softball team cruised to a 9-1 win against Golden West College on Friday at the Saddleback softball diamond.  Ehva Cifuentes-Zombulovic hit another home run in the win.

Saddleback broke out the lumber on Friday, exploding for 11 hits and eight walks in beating Golden West in six innings via the 8-run rule.  The Bobcats moved into sixth place with the win.

Cifuentes-Zombulovic remained hot when she hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning to give the Bobcats a 5-0 lead.  It was her team-leading eighth home run of the season and her second home run of the week.

Every player in the lineup had at least one hit for Saddleback, with Desiree McGruder and Emma Estep leading the way with two hits apiece.  Kianna Gutierrez, Isabel Siqueiros and McGruder all reached base three times during the game.

Katie Schmidt pitched a complete game for Saddleback while improving to 7-15 on the season.  Schmidt gave up one earned run on six hits while striking out three.

Cifuentes-Zombulovic now has eight home runs on the season, which is the highest total since Samantha Molina hit nine home runs in 2016.  Cifuentes-Zombulovic now has a team-high 27 RBI for the season.  It's the highest RBI total since Haliegh Wilkerson had 27 in 2017.

The win snapped a six-game losing streak and was the first win via the 8-run rule all season.  Saddleback is now 7-16 overall and 3-10 in Orange Empire Conference play.

Saddleback will play again on Monday when they host Fullerton at 3:00 PM.
