(Walnut, CA) With nine runs scored in the first three innings, the Mt. SAC Softball team went on to defeat visiting El Camino College, 9-1, in five innings (Thursday, April 14), in a South Coast Conference game.

With the win, sophomore pitcher Serena Navarrete improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the SCC.

Designated player Desiree Bravo (2 for 3, 2 R, 3 RBIs) led the team with three RBIs and a two-run home run, while centerfielder Emily Barba was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

"We just came out and were aggressive at the plate," said Bravo, who hit her first home run of the season. "I do better not thinking up there at the plate and that's what I did and that was the outcome. We're just going to worry about the next game."

After Bravo gave the Mounties a 2-0 lead in the first inning, they added five more in the second inning for the 7-0 lead.

Barba highlighted the second inning with a two-run double, scoring Bravo and first baseman Brianna Goris (2 runs scored).

"I feel a lot of teams are coming out after us because they know how we hit," Barba said. "I feel like we are adjusting, which is really good this time of year."

In the previous two meetings with El Camino, the two teams split, with the Mounties winning the first game in mid-February, 12-3, in five innings.

A month later, the Warriors edged Mt. SAC, 3-2. Since that loss on March 17, the Mounties have reeled off 14 consecutive wins.

"In the 3-2 game that we lost, we didn't do any of the three things right," Mt. SAC coach Jim Bollier said. "We didn't pitch good, we didn't play defense well and we didn't play good offense. You got to win at least two of those three to win a game. The difference (Thursday) was working on more pitches in the locations that we thought they were going to throw and to just capitalize on those things."
