Cats swat Hornets in OEC opener

The Saddleback baseball team opened the Orange Empire Conference campaign with a 9-3 win against Fullerton College on Tuesday at Doug Fritz Field.  The Bobcats pounded out 17 hits in the win.

Saddleback scored six runs in the bottom half of the second inning in breezing past the Hornets.  The Bobcats sent 10 batters to the plate, taking advantage of a pair of Fullerton errors while pounding out four hits in the inning. 

J.C. Allen gave Saddleback a 2-0 lead in the second inning when he singled home Jason Hefft.  It was one of five hits for Allen (pictured), who finished 5-for-5 with three runs scored.

Six different Bobcats had multiple hits in the game as Saddleback outhit Fullerton 17-6 for the day.  Michael Davinni finished 3-for-5 with five RBI, tying him for the team lead with Allen and Isaiah Morales with 17 RBI for the year.

Saddleback started Arthur Liu on the mound and he left after the fifth inning with an 8-0 lead.  Liu struck out eight Fullerton batters over five innings in improving to 4-1 on the season.  He also lowered his ERA to 1.91 for the year.

Saddleback is now 13-3 overall and 1-0 in Orange Empire Conference play for the season.  The Bobcats will play at Fullerton College on Thursday at 1:00 PM before returning home on Saturday for the third game of the series at 12:00 PM.
