Chabot College, winless in the Coast Conference in 2023, was up 4-1 heading to the 6th and was poised for an upset of state #4 West Valley. Abigail Desa put the Gladiator aspirations to rest with one swing of her bat. Desa's two-out grand slam drove home the game-winning runs and propelled the Vikings to their 18th consecutive victory.

The 6-4 win in Hayward left the Vikings (26-5, 11-0 Coast) with a one-game lead in the Coast heading into Thursday's all-important game at Monterey Peninsula (26-7, 7-3).

The Vikings jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st on a Paris Uribe RBI-single that drove in Bella Sweet, who had opened the game with a walk. The one-run lead would hold until Chabot (6-29, 0-12) exploded for four runs in the the 4th. Rhiannon Underhill stepped in for WVC starter Miranda Torres and would keep the Gladiators off the board the rest of the way, setting the stage for a Viking comeback.

That comeback started in the top of the 6th on a Sydney Heming double. Isabella Gallegos was hit by a pitch and, along with Heming, would move up on a Chabot passed ball. Reyna Cruz lifted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Heming and cut the Gladiator lead to 4-2. Marissa Delgadillo's single advanced Gallegos to third and, a pitch later, pinch-runner LeaAndra Ramirez, in for Delgadillo, stole second. With two outs, Kassady Alcazar was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Up stepped Desa, who sent a two-strike pitch over the centerfield fence for a 6-4 Viking lead they would not relinquish.

Underhill set the Gladiators down in order in the bottom of the 6th. Chabot opened the home half of the 7th with a single, but would suffer back-to-back Underhill K's. A Heming-to-Desa 4-6 force at second ended it.

Desa finished the day with a double, a homer and four RBI. Underhill earned the win with six strikeouts, two hits and no runs in 3 2/3 innings.
