Pirates blank Fullerton, 9-0

FULLERTON -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team kicked off its Orange Empire Conference portion of the schedule in style, shutting down host Fullerton College, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon.

Straight-set went wins for the Pirates (7-1, 1-0) went to Ryan Palaeologus (6-2, 6-2), Makoto Seike (6-1, 6-1), Jackson Hale (6-0, 6-0), Colby Kaplan (default) and Jamieson McLellan (default). 

At No. 1 singles, Logan Friedman overcame a first-set loss to top FC's Jamie Duffin, 4-6, 6-4 (12-10).

In doubles, the team of Kai Rodriguez and Yuta Kawabata outlasted Duffin/Jeff Lawton, 9-7, while Ryan Magers/Will Davis cruised to an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. OCC won the No. 3 doubles by default.

Weather permitting, the Pirates will return to nonconference action on Friday at home against Glendale, beginning at 2 p.m.
