Comets clinch PCAC title

The Palomar baseball team defeated Grossmont College, 15-8, on Saturday afternoon at Palomar College.  With the win the Comets clinched the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship.

Palomar swept past Grossmont, beating the Griffins three times in improving to 28-9 overall and 18-4 in PCAC play.  The Comets have one remaining series against San Diego Mesa College before moving into the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Palomar held a three-game lead over Grossmont heading into the game on Saturday, needing a win to sew things up.  The Comets made quick work of the Griffins, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after four innings of play.  Palomar put the game out of reach in the bottom half of the sixth inning when they sent 14 batters to the plate in scoring nine runs for a 15-3 lead.

It was Palomar's first PCAC title (without COVID-19 interruptions) since 2018.  The Comets led the PCAC in 2020 when the season was halted due to the pandemic.

Palomar was ranked No. 12 in the state in the latest California Community College Sports Information Association Poll that came out on April 12.  The Comets have gone 6-0 since the last poll and a new poll is due to be released this coming week.
