BULLING PAST THE DOGS

The No. 11 Hornets hit the road against No. 15 Allan Hancock College on Saturday afternoon and pushed past the Bulldogs 28-20.

Fullerton and Allan Hancock first played in 1994, and since then (including today) have only played one another 6 times. The last time they fought it out was in 2021, a decisive 41-7 for FC. The all-time series now stands at 5-1 in favor of the Hornets.

FC got on the board twice in the first quarter in a span of 4 minutes. At the 5:49 mark, Fullerton QB Josh Calvin hit Jordan Smith in stride for a 63-yard strike to go up 7-0. The Hornet defense worked a quick three and out on AHC getting the ball back at the FC 45 yardline. Three plays later Josh Calvin struck again tossing a 30-yard touchdown to Cameron Woods. Jonathan Fobear's second PAT was good putting Fullerton up 14-0 to end quarter.

The Bulldogs crossed the goal-line with 6:26 in the second quarter on a 5-yard run by Dior Kennedy. Hancock got within a point of FC at 9:58 in the third quarter when Raymond Paulo hauled in a 62-yard pass from Esekielu Storer.

Holding a narrow 14-13 edge, the Hornets increased their lead 21-13 at 6:26 in the third when Tyrell Greene Jr. powered the ball in from 3 yards out. With 36 seconds left in the quarter, Fullerton scored again on a 10-yard run by Malik Winston.

With the game in the Hornet's favor 28-13, the Bulldogs scored a late TD with 4:59 left in the game when Logan Mortensen dropped a 12-yard TD pass to Jaleel Walker.

The FC offense burned as much as it could off the clock before the Bulldogs got the ball back on their own 20 yardline with two minutes left on the clock. Ripping off five quick plays, AHC turned the ball over with 30 seconds on the clock. Maximus Ahoia intercepted Mortensen's pass returning it 28 yards before getting brought down in Bulldog territory. From there, Fullerton ran the clock out with one play in victory formation to claim the game.

Hornet QB Josh Calvin delivered another impressive performance throwing for 209 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. On the ground Tyrell Greene Jr. rushed for 93 yards on 18 carries for a touchdown. Cameron Woods had 4 catches for 93 yards and a TD. On defense, Kasyus Kurns had a busy day leading the team in tackles with 9 (5 solo) along with an interception return of 40 yards.

Up Next: The Hornets (3-1 overall) will host No. 17 El Camino College on Saturday, October 1st at Fullerton District Stadium. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm.
