With two outs and one on in the bottom of the seventh, West Valley was clinging to a 4-2 lead against visiting San Jose City with Jaguar cleanup hitter Kyana Elder at the plate. Elder ripped a grounder up the middle that looked destined for center field. Viking shortstop Hannah Hillman took a step to her left, became airborne, gloved the Elder grounder and tossed the ball to Allie Whitfield to force Kyra Garcia at second. Game over.

The Vikings (9-4) evened the season series with the Jaguars (18-3), with a May 29 game remaining at City. West Valley outhit San Jose 8-6, but had to overcome four infield errors with plays like Hillman's to get the win.

Cayla Williams got WVC on the board early with a two-run single in the bottom of the first that knocked in Hillman and Michelle Gonzalez. Gonzalez made it 3-0 in the bottom of the second, blasting a two-out triple that scored Hillman, who had just doubled.

SJCC closed to within 3-2 in the top of the third, but WVC picked up an insurance run in the fifth. Gonzalez opened the inning with a single and moved to second when Maddie Grissom reached on an E4. A Whitfield single drove in Gonzalez for a 4-2 Viking lead they never relinquished.

Williams picked up the complete game win in the circle, striking out three and scattering six hits. Gonzalez finished 2-for-3 with the RBI triple and two runs scored. Whitfield was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Hillman had an RBI double.
