Vikings rally but drop 6-5 decision to Pirates

West Valley outhit Modesto 13-10 and rallied from a 4-0 deficit, but fell 6-5 to the Pirates Friday at Mission College. The Vikings (3-7) spotted the Pirates (9-1) a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but put two on the board in both the 3rd and the 6th to even it at 4-4. Modesto added a run in the 7th, but WVC knotted it up in the eighth on a Tristan Silveira RBI single that knocked in Jaden Mazzaferro, who was hit by a pitch two batters earlier. A Jason DeShon solo homer in the top of the ninth gave the Pirates the win.

Jacob Serpa finished 2-4 with two RBI, while Andre Butler, Minhyuk Kim and Andrew Wilford all had a pair of hits. Colin Trizuto took the pitching loss in four innings of relief, giving up four hits and striking out six.
