Baseball completes wild week with a win

The Saddleback baseball team finished the week with a 16-6 victory at Moorpark College on Saturday in Moorpark.  The win capped off a wild week where the Bobcats went 3-0.

Saddleback started the week on Wednesday with a rare feat when they pitched just the second no-hitter in the history of the program against Grossmont College.  On Friday, they scored 13 runs in one inning in pouncing on Rio Hondo College 20-4.  Saturday's game didn't have any of those rare components, but did have its highlights as the Bobcats streaked past the Raiders to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Saddleback scored three times in the opening inning, two of which came across to score when Moorpark committed a costly error with two outs in the inning.  The Bobcats then exploded for six runs in the third inning to take a 9-2 lead.  Saddleback had two triples and a double in the inning while the Moorpark pitching staff had four walks in the inning.

Moorpark cut the lead to 9-6 heading into the seventh inning when the Bobcat bats came alive for a third time.  Saddleback scored seven times over the final three innings, rapping out three hits in every inning while taking advantage of a few costly errors.

Michael Davinni (pictured) finished with a team-high three hits in five at-bats while scoring three runs.  JC Allen finished 2-for-6 with four RBI.  In total, Saddleback had six different players with at least two hits while pounding out 16 hits on the afternoon.

Will Girardi came on to pitch in the fourth inning to pick up his first win of the season.

It also marked the third straight game where Saddleback has not committed an error on defense.  The Bobcats have now gone 30 innings without committing an error.

Saddleback will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Palomar College.  The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
