7th-seeded Vaqueros will host familiar foe in So Cal Regional

SBCC was seeded No. 7 for the Southern Cal Regional women's soccer playoffs and drew a familiar foe in No. 10 and WSC rival Ventura.

The Vaqueros (12-6-3) won their third straight WSC North title with a 9-1-2 record, beating Ventura by the same 2-1 score in both regular-season meetings. The Pirates are also 12-6-3 and finished third in conference at 7-4-1.

Santa Barbara has won four straight by a combined 15-1. The Vaqueros are unbeaten in their last 10 outings (8-0-2) and have outscored those opponents 38-6.

Mekaylla White, a freshman forward from Folsom, had two hat tricks last week and has four hat tricks in her last eight games. She leads the WSC North and is No. 13 in the state with 18 goals in 19 games.

Sean O'Brien, a freshman transfer from St. Mary's College, is second in scoring with nine goals and seven assists. Goalie Elizabeth Estrada is 10-3-2 with six shutouts and a 0.77 goals-against average.

The Pirates are 3-2-1 in their last six and lost a 2-1 decision to the visiting Vaqueros three games ago on Nov. 10.

Sammy Zanini leads VC in scoring with nine goals and three assists. Jacky Espinosa had eight goals and six assists.

The winner of the SBCC-Ventura clash will take on No. 2 Rio Hondo or Saddleback in a second-round game on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
