Bats get HOT for Pirates in rout over Long Beach

LONG BEACH -- There is always something positive to find in a victory ... and in a 20-13 win at Long Beach City College, the Orange Coast College baseball team found its happy face at the plate with a season-best, run-scoring display on Thursday.

The Pirates (6-2), winners of four straight, pounded out 20 runs on 20 hits and flexed their muscles throughout the 3-hour, 30-minute contest, ripping eight extra-base hits, including two home runs from Jaden Lyburtus.

Lyburtus, who now has four home runs in his first 20 at-bats, went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Sebastian Moore was the perfect sparkplug from the top of the lineup, going 4-for-6 with a double, triple, four runs scored and four RBI.

Zach Dickason and Jake Taylor each had three hits and three RBI, while Zach Crandall and Ethan Brand each scored three times as everyone up and down the lineup had a successful afternoon.

OCC's score-by-innings looked more like a social security number as the Pirates scored at least one run in all nine innings played.

Long Beach (2-6) did the best it could to answer back with six runs over the first four innings, but the OCC offense kept hitting and never trailed the entire game.

The Pirates will return to John Altobelli Park on Saturday and will host Southwestern College on Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m.
