PLEASANT HILL – Sophomore Shawn Allen's 22-yard touchdown run in overtime proved to the game-winner in City College of San Francisco's 17-16 Bay 6 League win at Diablo Valley College on Friday night.

The Rams bounced back from last week's loss to improve to 5-3 overall and keep pace at the top of the league standings at 2-1 with San Mateo, Laney, and Diablo Valley.

Points were at a premium on Friday as the Rams' defense was up to the challenge.

DVC appeared poised on its opening drive, surging down to the CCSF 17-yard line. But the Rams' defense held its position and forced a field goal. Ray Vallee hit from 34 yards out to give the Vikings an early 3-0 lead at the 10:09 mark.

CCSF followed the same path in the second quarter. Quarterback Jack Miller connected with David Pierro for a 55-yard reception while a 15-yard personal foul penalty by DVC set the Rams up at the Vikings' 20-yard line.

The CCSF's drive also stalled but Joseph Oliveira nailed a 36-yard field goal to tie the game up at 3-3 with 4:19 to play in the half.

Special teams came up with its biggest play on the ensuing kickoff. Oliveira's kick was fumbled by DVC's Nasim Chin at the nine-yard line and recovered by the Rams. Four plays later, Miller snuck in from one yard out as the Rams' gamble on fourth down paid off to give CCSF a 10-7 advantage with 2:09 left.

Diablo Valley responded with a field goal just before halftime to send the game into the break all tied up at 10-10.

Neither team was able to score in the second half, sending the contest into overtime.

CCSF took possession first, but after a sack and loss of two-yards on a pass play, the Rams faced a third-and-18 from the 22-yard line.

But Allen saved his best run for his final attempt. He took the handoff from Miller and broke four tackles on his way to an impressive touchdown run.

DVC came back to score a touchdown of its own in its overtime try, but Nathan Price missed the PAT kick to set off the Rams' celebration and secure the victory.

Just two games remain on the regular-season schedule, both at home. The Rams host Chabot College next Saturday (Nov. 5) followed by a Nov. 12 date against rival College of San Mateo.
