Beavers Woes Continue, Can't Avoid Sweep to Sierra

BEAVERS WOES CONTINUE, CANT AVOID SWEEP TO SIERRA

American River College just can’t seem to find that winning feeling that they had before BIG 8 Conference play started as they fell to Sierra College 15-4 on Saturday.  After out-hitting the Wolverines on Thursday the Beavers were not able to muster enough offense to overcome some shaky pitching and defense in the series finale.  It started right away  in the top of the first as freshman starter Wyatt Winalski (San Juan) allowed a leadoff single to right that was misplayed by sophomore RF Josiah Taylor (Alpha Charter) allowing the batter to get to 2nd.  Winalski would then walk three of the next four batters to put the Beavers down 1-0.  After a sac fly made the score 2-0, Winalksi allowed a double to give Sierra a 4-0 lead right off the get-go.  ARC would get a run back as they tallied three hits in the bottom of the first and Sophomore DH Alejandro Belo (Vanden) drove in a run on a fielders choice.  Sierra extended the lead however, scoring single runs off of Winalski in 2nd and 3rd innings.  Sierra then turned the dagger in the 4th and 5th innings, scoring three runs in each to go up 12-1 through five innings.  The Beavers got a run in the 6th thanks to a double to left by freshman 2B Marcellas Flenory (Antelope) that on any other day would have been a home run if not for the 15 mph winds blowing straight in.  Sophomore LHP Hunter Cabral (Portola) finally held Sierra scoreless in the 6th and 7th innings but he did not have as much luck in the 8th as the Wolverines added another three runs, all with two outs.  The Beavers didn’t quit though as they scored a pair in the 9th on a two out single by 1B Bryce Sidler (Oakmont).

ARC will now go on their bye week where they have just one non-conference game, a Tuesday match-up on the road in Susanville to take on the Lassen College Cougars.  The two teams met at Beaver Field back in February where the Beavers were victorious 11-9.
