Men's volleyball team bounces back to beat Santa Monica

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team answered after losing its first match of the season Wednesday night.

The Lasers went on the road Friday and defeated Santa Monica, 19-25, 25-13, 25-20, 28-26.

Irvine Valley was off to a 5-0 start before losing in five sets at San Diego Mesa on Wednesday night.

IVC got big nights Friday from sophomore opposite Demetre Gossett, freshman setter Kaina Alvarez and sophomore libero Adam Schulte.

Gossett finished with 23 kills, two aces and eight digs and hit .405 on the night. Alvarez dished out 40 assists and had nine digs and Schulte finished with 29 digs and four assists.

Freshman outside hitter Damon Kooiman contributed 10 kills and eight digs for the Lasers.

IVC hit .257 (48-20-109) on the evening. 

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday at home against San Diego Miramar at 6 p.m.
