Romero and Padilla Save the Day

Men's soccer team poses for a picture.

After 80 minutes of soccer the MiraCosta men's soccer team trailed 2-0 and it didn't look like they had a chance.  Visiting Golden West was the more agressive team and won a majority of the free balls. However, despite being down two goals the Spartans didn't stop playing.  In the 83rd minute Jose Aguirre played a perfect ball to Alex Romero over the top.  Romero, who had an advantage on his defending player, scored the first MiraCosta goal, gently lobbing the ball over the Golden West goalkeeper.  Just a few minutes later Romero found Rudy Padilla, who had room to turn and shoot.  Padilla scored MiraCosta's equalizing goal with just a few minutes left in the game.

Freshman Jeshua Lombana played 90 minutes in the goal for the Spartans and worked closely with the tough defensive line that includes Shih-Kuan Yang, Juan Diaz, Tinh Ho, Kyle Carrington and David Garcia.

With the draw MiraCosta's overall record is 0-0-2 leading into their matches next week.  On Wednesday the Spartans host Orange Coast College at 4PM and on Saturday host Rio Hondo for an 11AM kickoff.
