Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Baseball Team put their skills and depth on display as they delivered a dominant 22-6 win over Orange Coast College on Tuesday, February 25. With this victory, the No. 6-ranked Mounties extended their winning streak to eight games, improving to 12-3 overall and maintaining a perfect 3-0 record in conference play. The Pirates, meanwhile, fell to 4-11 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Things got off to a good start for the Pirates when Kael Corridan singled in Dylan Krause for an early 1-0 lead. However, the Mounties wasted no time responding, exploding for five runs in the bottom of the first. Base hits from Bryan Bradshaw and Landon White, combined with RBIs from Diego Ortiz, Miguel Perez, and Joel Gutierrez, gave Mt. SAC a 5-1 advantage.

The Pirates cut into the deficit in the second, as Andrew Chorbagian's RBI double brought home Nathan Valencia (5-2). But the Mounties capitalized on multiple wild pitches in the third, bringing in Gutierrez and tacking on another run with White's RBI double (7-2).

The offensive firepower continued in the fourth, as Ty Thomas crushed a three-run home run, followed by RBI singles from Gutierrez and Perez, extending the lead to 12-2. Thomas and White kept the momentum going in the fifth and sixth, each adding two RBIs to push the score to 16-2.

Orange Coast managed a few late runs, including a groundout RBI from Connor Chapa in the seventh and a two-run eighth inning sparked by a triple from Devin Rodgers and an RBI single from Gyubeen Kim.

However, Mt. SAC put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth, plating six more runs behind doubles from AC Nieto, White, and Ortiz, as well as a single from Tyler Stull. Their 22-run total marked their second-highest scoring game this season, just behind their 25-run explosion against Victor Valley on January 25.

The Pirates managed one last run in the ninth when Tyler Arevalos scored on a passed ball, but it was far from enough to challenge Mt. SAC's offensive dominance.

Izeah Muniz got the start for the Mounties, throwing four innings, allowing three hits and two runs, while striking out four. The bullpen held strong, with Josh Torres, Ethan Corral, Jeremiah Sibrian, and Ryan Martinez taking the mound before Dom Versluis closed it out. Orange Coast struggled on the mound, cycling through eight pitchers in nine innings, allowing 25 hits and issuing seven walks.

BY THE NUMBERS:

NEXT UP:

The Mounties look to extend their winning streak as they take on Oxnard College (3-11) in a two-game series. The first matchup is set for Thursday, February 27, followed by a home game at Mazmanian Field on Saturday, March 1, at 12:00 PM.
