Panther Softball was on the road Saturday going 1-1 against Imperial Valley.
In game 1, the Panthers were shut out by IVC 5-0 with Imperial leading from the start. Chaffey only managed two hits in 7 innings, both singles.
Game 2 was a completely different ball game. Chaffey came out swinging with Violet Salazar getting a single in the leadoff position. Lorissa Avila came up to bat third, doubling to drive Salazar across the plate, putting the Panthers on the board for the first time all day.
Fueled on, Lorissa returned to the plate in the 3rd to repeat the 1st inning with a double bringing Salazar across again. Panthers led 2-0.
Five runs in the 4th inning beginning with a single RBI double by Adina Arrington to cross Alyah Rueff then Lexi Alaniz-Diaz scored on an error followed again by Avila. With bases loaded, Avila knocked her third double of the game to bring in Salazar, Arrington, and Sabrina Garcia.
Salazar also put in three innings on the mound before being relieved by Celeste Paniagua.
"We were pleased to get a split today. IVC is a tough team and we really started to hit the ball well in game two," said Head Coach Jerry Tivey. "Lorissa Avila had a good day at the plate with three doubles and four RBIs."
The Panthers take on Mt San Jacinto at home Wednesday.
