GLENDORA - The turbulent season for the Marauder softball team continued after it dropped a pair of games to host Citrus College, Tuesday afternoon.
AVC lost 6-3 in the first game and was defeated 6-2 in the second.
The Owls' Makaele Moore kept AVC hitters off balance as she pitched both complete games and struck out a total of 10 Marauder hitters.
"I have to give credit to their pitcher (Moore). She did a good job of moving the ball around and was able to control our sticks," AVC head coach Cindy Vargas said. "It also didn't help that we were missing two big bats in our lineup due to injuries."
One of them, only a top 10 hitter in the state in Erica Serfoss, who was injured in the first game with a hurt ankle. Vargas said she hopes Serfoss, who is batting a hefty .500 on the season, will return next Thursday against Bakersfield. However, no timetable for her return has been set.
The Marauders were also playing without Toni Hutnick, who was out with a concussion, according to Vargas.
AVC, one of the top teams in the state in batting average and other offensive statistical categories, was held to only five hits in the second game.
The Marauders gave up seven walks in the first game, compared to Moore, who didn't walk a batter in either game. Maria Acosta blasted her third home run of the season, a solo shot in the top of the fourth inning of the second game, but the Marauders still trailed 5-2 at that point.
AVC also had its winning streak snapped at three games, in which the Marauders scored a combined 51 runs in those three victories.
