Mt. SAC Takes Down Riverside, Battles Past Mt. San Jacinto in Home Opener

Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Beach Volleyball Team kicked off their home opener in style on Friday, January 31, securing victories over Riverside City College and Mt. San Jacinto. The Mounties swept the Tigers 5-0 before edging out the Eagles 3-2, improving their early-season record to 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Mounties were unstoppable against Riverside, claiming wins across all five pairs. Candace Ceballos and Madeline Castillo set the tone with a 21-15, 21-18 victory over Alyssa Bishop and Kyra Myers. Itzel Aguayo and Freda Lei staged a thrilling comeback in the only three-set match, rallying past Riley Chaffee and Harmony Kniss (16-21, 21-13, 15-13). Eva Fisher and Emma Carson followed up with a dominant 21-15, 21-14 win over Danna DeLeon and Keira Isgar. Brooklyn Acevedo and Kaylin Mendoza cruised past Tabitha Irish and Isabela Reyes (21-11, 21-8), while Jordyn Romano and Eva Becerra sealed the sweep with a 21-14, 21-17 win over Abby Oaks and Mia Monge.

The second match against Mt. San Jacinto proved to be a tougher battle, but the Mounties held strong to clinch a 3-2 victory. Ceballos and Castillo continued their stellar performance with a commanding 21-11, 21-14 win over Josephine Springer and Korie Milan. Aguayo and Lei struggled to find their rhythm, falling to Megan Gadja and Brooklyn Jimenez (15-21, 21-23). Fisher and Carson stepped up again, securing a 21-9, 21-17 win against Kalia Anady and Jade Tolliver. Romano and Becerra moved up to the No. 4 pair this match and fought hard but fell to Amari Ramirez and Sienne Vitelli (19-21, 18-21). In a clutch performance, Acevedo and Mendoza delivered the decisive win, defeating Audrey Franks and Angelia Browder (21-13, 21-18) to secure the Mounties' victory.

NEXT UP:

The Mounties will host Santa Monica and Bakersfield on Friday, February 7. Games are scheduled for 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Come out and support the team while enjoying an exciting day of beach volleyball action on our beautiful courts!
