Monterey Park, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team put their dominance on display as they defeated East Los Angeles College 79-50 on Wednesday, February 5. Although this was a highly anticipated South Coast Conference North Division matchup, with ELAC ranked second in the conference, the Mounties rolled past the Huskies proving their place at the top. Following this win, Mt. SAC's record improves to 20-4 with a .833 winning percentage, while the Huskies fall to an even 11-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Huskies opened the scoring with a layup from Miracle Millinghaus, but the Mounties quickly seized control. Taliyah McFerson responded with a layup of her own, followed by a free throw from Alana Diaz. Elizabeth Udeze contributed six early points, while Daisia Mitchell added four points and pulled down four rebounds, giving the Mounties a 21-8 lead after the first.
ELAC found some rhythm in the second quarter, with Asiah Harris scoring six of the team's 16 points. However, Mitchell's consistent performance, adding five points for the Mounties, ensured Mt. SAC maintained control, heading into halftime with a 36-24 advantage.
The Mounties came out of the break firing on all cylinders. Diaz delivered a standout third quarter, racking up 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, anchoring both the offense and defense. Although Harris and Derricka Millinghaus worked to keep ELAC competitive, the Huskies were limited to just 13 points in the period, trailing by a wide margin heading into the final quarter.
The Mounties finished just as strong as they started, adding an additional 25 points with Mitchell banking several layups and grabbing six rebounds. Aanisah Moncrief sunk a three-pointer and Udeze added a couple free throws to put the game out of reach for the Huskies.
